Save the dates! Battle of the Badges is July 8-14. 🥊 👮‍♀️👨‍🚒 Plano Fire-Rescue and the Plano Police Department are once again facing off in a challenge to collect blood donations. 🩸 During summer, donations dip as people get busy with vacations. It’s also when travel-related accidents increase. Help us fill the gap! When you donate, don't forget to cast your vote for Plano Fire-Rescue or Plano Police Department. Last year, Fire-Rescue claimed victory. Will they be back-to-back champs? Or will Police make a comeback? It's up to you! Visit Plano.gov/BOB for more information. #BattleOfTheBadges #BloodDonation #LovePlano

People aren’t the only ones looking to have a drink after a long day 🦟👀 Did you know mosquitoes are most active during dusk and dawn? Here are a few simple ways to #FightTheBite : 💧 DRAIN standing water around your home. Mosquitoes only need a body of water the size of a bottle cap to lay eggs, so check everything from flowerpots to rain gutters. 🚫 DEFEND yourself by applying repellent. Look for DEET in the ingredient list. If you prefer organic, look for eucalyptus or citronella. 👖 DRESS in long sleeves and pants. Pick up more tips and learn what the City does to monitor and control mosquitoes at Plano.gov/Mosquitoes. #MosquitoAwarenessWeek

Please visit Plano.gov/StormRecovery for the latest information. STORM RECOVERY UPDATE: 4 PM 5/28/2024 The City’s priority remains clearing debris from roadways and restoring traffic signals. Arterial roadways have been cleared, crews are shifting to focus on residential streets. Report downed trees that are blocking a road to Public Works at 972-769-4160. Leave a message and your request will be put in the work system. If a tree is blocking a sidewalk, please submit to Fix-It Plano (Plano.gov/FixIt) and it will be addressed as soon as possible. Residents are responsible for clearing debris on their private property. If there is a life/safety issue at your home, call 9-1-1. Remember trash and recycling service slid one day due to the Memorial Day holiday. If your trash or recycling was not collected (and it was your collection day), please leave your cart at the collection point and crews will get to it as soon as possible. Supervisors are clearing the alleyways before the trucks come through. Please place debris in neatly stacked piles no larger than 6 feet x 4 feet x 4 feet. Debris should be neatly stacked at your regular collection point at least 2 feet from trees, fences, utility boxes, gas meters, and vehicles. Do not place piles between the fence and alley (easement). The City’s Public Works staff is currently receiving a high volume of calls post-storm. Wait times are expected to become even longer as more requests come in for tree debris removal. If you are without power, here is helpful information on food safety: - Throw out perishable food in your refrigerator after four hours without power. - Check the temperature of food in your freezer and coolers. Throw out food above 41°F. - You can safely refreeze or cook thawed frozen food that still contains ice crystals or is at 41°F or below. - Once power is restored, use appliance thermometers to keep your freezer at 0°F or below and refrigerator at 41°F or below. - When in doubt, throw it out! To track and report power outages, go to stormcenter.oncor.com Storms are expected overnight. Stay weather aware and subscribe to Plano City Call for alerts: Plano.gov/CityCall
