Let's get into details about Badtime Stories! Here's the breakdown of the hi-hat pattern of the First verse of Paper Chrysalis! Basically on the hi-hat It plays a pattern based on a 3 against 4 polyrhythm which is resolved in two bars and then starts again for a total of 8 bars! The bass drum follows the hi-hat by accenting a 16th note every three. The snare drum, however, remains the reference for the time signature in 4/4 and plays the 2nd and 4th quarters! In the third repetition of the pattern something changes: the snare moves to the 4th quarter creating even more tension in the rhythmic structure!
