Tens of thousands of people gathered in Coney Island on Saturday for the 42nd annual Mermaid Parade.
Decked out in glitter and tentacles, Mermaid Queen and Neptune King Joe Coleman led the procession of marching bands, floats, and nautical homemade costumes and puppets down Surf Avenue and onto the boardwalk.

This year, NYC Cultural Affairs Commissioner Laurie Cumbo, will march with Materials for the Arts in the 42nd annual Mermaid Parade in a costume designed by @BKStyleFoundation ’s Rick Davy and MFTA’s Maria Canela.
MFTA has provided materials and hosted opportunities for parade marchers to sustainably create their costumes using MFTA supplies, along with giant jellyfish sculptures. 🪼
