This choreography of mine is in celebration of the gift of being alive. It's a combination of African, contemporary and ballet dance. I had to mix the three to suit the outdoor environment. I got a chance to perform at an end of year party in Lagos and the feeling of dancing for this new crowd was like nothing I've felt before. And I'm grateful for the opportunity. It took a lot of determination to complete and execute this one cus I encountered a lot of challenges on the buildup to this performance. For one, the day before this event you won't believe a heavy object fell right on my left foot! No need to say how excruciating that was! It didn't make my dancing any easier too. But I think the biggest challenge was the terrain on which I had to dance, the artificial carpet grass caught my foot twice or so lol. That's why I personally call this choreography 'Fight' cus I feel you're all you got and you must fight for your dreams. A balcony, a dancing brown girl and some good ol' music...it must be Cynthia😅 I wanted to do something special for the whole season but I couldn't think of anything until this song, 'Light a candle' by 'Smokie' played in my music app two days ago. It was exactly what I needed for my video. I had to think fast to create this choreography because I really wanted to do this video before the year runs out 😌. I'm so grateful for the way it turned out, considering it's been a long time I did ballet. I was really nervous about the pirouettes but I think I'm getting better 😅 The pretty red off-shoulder leotard is my second. Thank you @bravochuks ! This choreography was inspired by the tragedy and plight of victims of violence around the world, in my country Nigeria and especially the people of Ukraine. Watching the news everyday and seeing what ordeals people just like me pass through really makes me wonder...I just wanted to channel how I felt into dance. I tried to portary some heartfelt sorrow in the very beginning with the adagio, then hope as I form the peace sign because that's all we really need right? I then move on to dance out all the weight in my heart and it ends with a moment of relief and waking up to a new world of peace... The black leotard is my very first. I was barely a week away from my final exams when ASUU embarked on this latest epic strike. For the benefit of my non-Nigerian friends ASUU is the body of academic staff of universities in my country, that means lecturers. Yes, you guessed right no lectures, no exams till further notice. This semester was very fast paced; thesis, exams, postings, and I was pretty excited about rounding up school. But this break has given me some time to come back to myself and I realize there's really no point rushing things in life. This is not exactly how I wanted to come back after so long but... Hello everyone, I've missed you guys so much and being here on Instagram. I'll tell you all about what I've been up to all this time later on my next post but till then... I wanted to share these video excerpts from my performance at Pope John Paul Major Seminary at Awka. It was my first time of being at a seminary and I wasn't sure what the crowd would like lol 😅 This choreography was one I came up with 7 years ago but in this case I added slight mods to it. I used it for my debut performance on campus back then. It took me lots of practice to come out as smooth did for this program and I'm really glad with my progress so far teaching myself ballet.
