Freezing moments in time! This was July 2021 after my cherry blossom show in Paris with fading blue hair, I don’t know why I love these so much but I do, a bit smaller than usual and no colour but I’m in the zone here. They are all finished now and working out what to do with them, still love the idea of a show called “where the land meets the sea” I love the way a painted photograph is itself a captured moment in time. But kinda dead, yet when you throw paint at it it feels risky and more alive yet all the paint is just still more frozen moments but all the paint contains the energy of the throwing. I love the movement and the moments.

2,000 year old treasure found at the bottom of the Indian Ocean off the east coast of Africa, made from pink portugese marble. Those dead artists knew what they were doing. Hahaha

Was looking through old videos to find some of the cherry blossoms to post to accompany the show opening in Tokyo and I found this video from just after the opening in Paris (July 2021), feels so damn long ago but it’s only months, so weird how this pandemic has been a great crucible for painting but it’s changed our whole perception of time. Love these with the black and white vibe, I wonder if the reason I went black and white and smaller after all that colour in the cherry blossoms was a reaction to the negativity and uncertainty we all felt over the last few years? Whatever it is it feels good now, in contrast to all that colour. Just thinking out loud. My Cherry Blossoms show is on from 2 March to 23 May 2022 at @thenationalartcentertokyo .
