Pretty crazy scene to unfold here. Mountain ranges in the far distance, a monstrosity of a glacier in front of that range, and a sea of bobbing glacier chunks that are probably the size of a bus or a small house. As the sun started to fall lower on the horizon the sky caught a little color but the side-lighting of the floating glacier chunks is what really caught my eye. • • • #iceland #inspiredbyiceland #todayiniceland #takemoreadventures #landscapephotography #dronephotography #cliffnotesofmymemory #travelswithdan #slappersbangersandrollovers

Starting off this year by sharing some photos that are pretty special to me. This is the Vatnajökull Glacier. It’s the largest glacier in all of Europe and is bigger than the state of Delaware. Aside from this being one of the coolest places (no pun) I’ve ever explored, I came to learn that during this past spring and summer, this behemoth mass of ice moved over 200 yards. Imagine something bigger than the state of Delaware moving the distance of two football fields over the course of 8 months. Pretty nuts. But it’s during that period where the guts of this glacier cracks and falls in on itself and creates new tunnels and caves until it freezes over again until the colder months. And that’s what I think is probably the coolest part of these photos — it’s that these tunnels and pathways didn’t exist until just recently, and I managed to find a few compositions and photograph them. And when it gets warm again this spring and summer, the melting and cracking cycle will continue and these photos will never look the same or even exist again. 📸 credit to @jcmcgreehan for snapping a shot of me about to head in

The majesty of Kirkjufell. Didn’t spend a whole lot of time here but during that time I caught a moody Timelapse (seen here), a shot of the Aurora (I’ll share that later at some point) and a banger of a sunrise (which I caught from the van I slept in 10 minutes from here (didn’t photograph it 🤦🏻‍♂️) • • • #iceland #todayiniceland #inspiredbyiceland #nordiciceland #moodygrams #folkscenery #landscapephotography
