New exhibition! The @cityreliquary is
proud to present “Liberty the Tattooed Lady: The Great Bartholdi Statue as Depicted in Tattooing.” Curated by @daredevilmichelle This exhibition is the first devoted entirely to the history of Statue of Liberty tattoos. A stunning collection of vintage tattoo art— including pieces never publicly displayed before-shows how the Statue of Liberty has been embraced and embodied by American tattoo artists since the turn of the century.

Since its unveiling in 1886, the Statue of Liberty has served as a symbol of New York City and the nation. Received as a gift from France to commemorate the Declaration of Independence and the abolition of slavery, Lady Liberty has long represented ideals often associated with the idea of America: freedom and liberty. Antique flash, vintage photographs, drawings, and other related objects on display in this exhibit show that Lady Liberty has been a popular subject in tattooing for as long as she’s stood in New York Harbor.

I know I’m supposed to post and be active on social media but I really can’t stand how just opening this app sucks you in the moment you look at it. They really have perfected grabbing our brains. I didn’t know the zombie apocalypse was going to look like this.
So I’ve been avoiding i g lately to work on projects like the book for the #libertythetattooedlady show at the City Reliquary Museum which is going really well.
Anyway, I figured I should jump in here and post some tattoos I’ve been working on lately. Here’s one for @madagain_73 we started on many years ago and just did a background for. Some custom color Celtic.
Now I’ll be checking my phone to see how this post is doing please like it to satisfy our zombie brain eating overlords hahaha
This tattoo was chosen from the #LibertytheTattooedLady show currently on display at the @cityreliquary museum. If you haven’t seen the show yet the museum is open weekends noon to 6pm in Brooklyn. This beautiful sheet on loan from the @lyle.tuttle collection is by Lou Normand ca. 1940’s. The snake tattoo is by Henry Goldfield!
