The theme “Colorful Sixty Days” is a special feature celebrating the release of my new book “Sixty Days.” It showcases varied fashion styles inspired by the imagery of each heavenly stem and earthly branch. The interpretation is subjective.
This inspiration is drawn from Gui Si within the sixty Jiazi cycle. 癸(Gui)represents rainfall from the heavens, while 巳(Si)symbolizes the parched earth. 癸巳(Gui Si)evokes imagery reminiscent of drought and rainmaking rituals. The color palette is dominated by black and red, with accents of white and gray. The interpretive style is inspired by the traditional attire of women from the southwestern ethnic minorities in China, integrating contemporary designs with ethnic elements.
Many myths and ritualistic practices among various ethnic groups stem from ancient traditions of nature worship, with ”rainmaking“ being one such example. For instance, one origin of the Xishuangbanna Dai people’s Water-Splashing Festival is the narrative poem ”The Seven Sisters Battling the Fire Demon,“ where the sisters could only extinguish the demon‘s flames by pouring water over his head, eventually becoming a New Year’s tradition.
