The Dialogue on Race Louisiana staff retreats are always productive and inspiring. And last week's retreat was no different. We learned so much about each other, asked thoughtful questions (we are trained facilitators after all) and discussed the vision and future of Dialogue on Race Louisiana. Like so many events that the organization hosts, staff members had the chance to share, be uncomfortable alongside one another as we grappled with different issues and ideas, and most importantly, ground ourselves in the ever important and timely work of Dialogue on Race Louisiana: to end racism.

Knowing and valuing history is important to Dialogue on Race Louisiana. We believe in seeing the full through line and connecting the dots between historical and current events. Juneteenth is a day with a long and layered story behind it, which we believe is important to share.

Celebrating Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is so important to Dialogue on Race Louisiana. And this week's happy hour did just that. It was an event filled with warmth and connection. Thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed this time with us. We are always grateful to spend time with you in person and to honor the rich, cultural and ethnic diversity that make up the Dialogue community and beyond.

DORLA is excited to shout out to Cancer Services --one more workplace that offered its staff the DOR Series. Cancer services said it was an important step toward encouraging its staff to talk openly about race in the workplace. Join Dialogue on Race Louisiana in congratulating the staff of Cancer Services in Baton Rouge for successfully completing the Dialogue on Race educational process. The photos shown here are from Breakfast and Dialogue, which is a social gathering following the end of the Dialogue on Race Series held onsite at Cancer Services for the entire staff. If your workplace or organization is interested in scheduling a series, please visit our website at the link in profile.

One month is not enough time to honor one of America's multiple ethnic groups; but having a commemorative month draws attention and allow for education and celebration. During Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Dialogue on Race wants to share voices from those of AAPI heritage, of which the month of May is honoring. We are grateful to share with you the above quote from a DOR Alum from the perspective of their ethnicity. Join Dialogue on Race Louisiana alum at Blend Wine Bar tomorrow, Wednesday, May 22 at 6 PM for a Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month happy hour! There will be special prices on wine and cocktails and a lot of good conversation. It’s a free event, bring friends and have fun. Register at the link in profile.

One of the most valuable skills that can be developed through the Dialogue on Race Louisiana structure is the ability to connect historic events to contemporary times. And last week we had the chance to do just that during a special, one time Race in Conversation about the importance of unions during the Civil Rights movement and the role they play in American society today. Thank you to all participants who attended! The conversation was animated, exciting and as always, an important Dialogue to have in this exact moment.
