It was a pleasure to attend the Tuska Forum panel and talk about music and video games with @ollie_t_gtr and @ville.sorsa from @remedygames ! Thanks everyone who attended, so cool to see a packed house. And special thanks to @bleedingmetalpod and @tuskafestival for arranging everything! ❤️

Heading to the beach! 🏖️ I’m not really a beach person, but it was nice for a change to just lay in the sun for half a day without doing much. ☀️😎

A public service announcement follows: Finland is closed for the Midsummer weekend. Everyone is at the countryside and not available, please come back on Monday. 🌞🌷 Happy Juhannus! (As it happens, our plans changed at the last moment and we’ll spend Midsummer mostly at home, but that’s fine too.)

Speaker testing day! 🔊 I’ve been using Genelec’s speakers in studio and at home for work and entertainment since the 90’s, and just couldn’t do music and sound without them any more. Generally they have worked amazingly well, my studio speakers are something like 25 years old and never had a single problem. But lately I noticed there is something strange with my home speakers, so I did some tests and measurements and sure enough, two of them don’t sound like they should. Fortunately Genelec has a great repair service, but unfortunately it’s located at their factory which is a loooong drive from my place, so I have to carefully pack and mail the speakers, which is not among my favourite things. I really wish they’d open a repair shop in Helsinki, not that I need it very often, but when I do, I’d rather just take the speakers there myself instead of having to rely on the mail service. But well, as long as they get fixed, no major complaints. (Disclaimer: This post is not sponsored by Genelec or anyone else.) @genelec_oy

Thanks to my friend B. Kane, I’ve lately been getting into the fascinating world of 3D printing and modeling. Very basic stuff so far, but my main goal for now has been learning the fundamental workflow and all the new terms and software etc. I’ve been trying to design & print simple but actually useful things, like these stands for my computer monitor. I have to admit, I didn’t even realize 3D printers were so affordable and commonplace nowadays. It wasn’t that long ago when they felt 100% science fiction. But yeah, it’s still pretty mindblowing you can just design something on your computer, and soon it will be a physical object in our world! 🤯

I finally managed to get my bike fixed (just a flat tire, but sometimes getting simple things done can take an incredibly long time…). Our studio is a nice bike drive away from my home, and cycling in great weather is the perfect way to start & end the working day! 🚴☀️

Dreams, or rather nightmares. I have a recurring dream (and I’m sure I’m not the only one) where I have a math exam coming up. I am not prepared, and in fact I have no understanding of any of the concepts in the exam. I’m doing my best to try to learn the strange symbols, but they don’t make any sense and time is running out. Just a few nights ago I had probably one of the worst occurrences of this dream, everything felt both very real and very abstract at the same time, and after waking up I felt pretty anxious for a while. 😓 The funny thing is that in real life, I love mathematics. I read math books and watch math videos all the time, and I do audio DSP coding that involves a lot of math concepts and equations. Yeah, it’s still pretty simple stuff compared to what some actual mathematicians and DSP gurus are doing, but the point is that I’m never afraid to dive deep into any new concept and try to learn it. In fact, it feels good to know there’s so many cool things I haven’t even touched yet, and they are there just waiting for me. It’s like an endless playground with infinitely many toys to play with. I haven’t been to any school or formally studied anything for about 30 years, but I’ve been having variations of this dream for years. Who knows what it means, if anything, but I think many people have similar dreams for some reason.
Picture: AI’s depiction of a Math Monster, something that haunts me in my dreams. Not literally, but if there was a monster, it would probably look something like that. 👹

Has it really been three months since I last posted something? Time really flies. But yeah, I’m still here. Here’s one from a few years back when I last visited Mr. Dali. We had a great time, as always.

Evening walk in Helsinki! It’s getting warmer, I wouldn’t go on the ice any more, but looks like some brave soul doesn’t care…
