The biggest challenge I faced as an upcycling venture when approaching B2B clients for bulk orders or export clients was the question, "DO YOU HAVE ANY CERTIFICATION? How can we verify that your products are authentic?" Many clients trusted us after several meetings and proceeded with their orders, thanks to our transparent approach and active social media presence. However, without certification, they struggled to explain their decision to their superiors or include our products in their sustainability reports. Many suggested we obtain "GRS certification," and I had to repeatedly explain that recycling and upcycling are different, and GRS does not apply to our case.
In January 2024,
@aamrootah from the
@ministryoftextilesgoi approached us to understand our challenges. I mentioned that certification was our biggest hurdle, and I believe many of my fellow upcycling ventures shared the same issue. To my surprise, under the leadership of
@prajakta_l_verma Ma'am, this feedback was taken seriously. An MOU was signed at Bharat Tex to promote products from upcycled fabric within two months of raising the issue, and shortly thereafter, they announced a certification specifically for upcycling. Within days of completing a form and undergoing a physical survey, we received our certification from the Ministry. This is nothing short of a miracle for brands like ours.
I am extremely grateful to the entire team at the Ministry for recognizing our efforts and boosting the morale of the upcycling ecosystem.
Calling all entities interested in exploring our upcycled denim products!
