A personal favorite in the garden is Piper auritum, aka the root beer plant. This heat loving herb has a familiar aroma. You guessed it, root beer! It is also known as a Mexican pepperleaf plant. It’s beautiful large leaves will need to be cut back every year and can get a bit out of control if not managed, but for the attentive gardener, it is a great addition! #rootbeerplant #easttexasarboretum #easttexasgardening #aromaticherbs

The Cain Forest Garden is a great way to enjoy the gardens even in the heat! Shade tolerant hostas and oak leaf hydrangeas peek out in dappled sunlight to fill the forest floor. Visit the Arboretum for some vitamin N every day 9:00am-5:00pm. #forestgarden #easttexasarboretum #visitathenstx

Every garden needs a night time guard. Look no further than the Sacred Datura. This night time blooming plant is known by many names including moonflower, angel trumpet, and thorn apple.
