This was a challenging #Passover for so many of us. Physically distanced from our family and friends, we gathered via video calls, crafted makeshift Seder plates, found joy in cooking matzah ball soup for one. Yet we also connected with cousins we haven’t seen in decades, watched celebs sing and tell jokes at Saturday Night Seder, and made the best of celebrating the story of the liberation of our people. Next year not only in (metaphorical) Jerusalem, but in person, too.

Mexico celebrated its Dia de la independencia - Independence Day - on Sept. 16, to commemorate the date in 1810 when Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang a bell (hello, Philly) and let loose his Cry of Independence to encourage fellow Americans to revolt against Spanish colonists. He died a year later and the Mexicans only won in 1821, but still, big deal. And *not* Cinco de Mayo. Thanks @flynnaj1 for the backyard fiesta!

The most important and my favorite (for public consumption) photo from #worldpride2019 : with #grandma . I bought this shirt a week prior from @fundacionigualespanama , an LGBTQ rights org in Panama. It says “we are all family.” Grandma, in her 92 years of wisdom, let me stay over during #worldpride , arriving home late and in glitter, and looked for me on TV during the parade, and made sure I had enough to eat during the festivities. I ❤️ all of my families. I ❤️ her the most.
Fish flown in daily from Japan + stuff on a stick + monsters + karaoke (not pictured). @zeppelindc mixes sophisticated omakase with late-night karaoke and it’s a party. Check out my latest for @dcist
