Dries, and Dries only.
If there’s one person who truly deserves all the praise he receives in this industry, it’s him,
#DriesVanNoten .
Fifteen years ago, I fell in love with fashion through the Antwerp 6, and especially the work of Dries. Everything about him and his fashion moves me: his delicacy, his poetry, his sense of storytelling and detail, the incomparable quality of his garments that defy trends and are made to last — always relevant — but above all, his kindness.
In an often ruthless industry that drives designers to burnout, he has transformed his vulnerability into a quiet, enduring strength by maintaining his independence and becoming one of the most important fashion references of recent decades, all while staying true to himself with profound humility.
And even after his 129th show (!), he takes his bow with utmost simplicity, leaving us with words that resonate: “Tonight is many things, but it is not a grand finale. I think about how Marcelo Mastroianni once spoke of a paradoxical “Nostalgia del futuro,” beyond the lost paradises imagined by Proust, and how we continue to pursue our dreams knowing that, at some point, we can look back on them with love. I love my job, I love doing fashion shows, and sharing fashion with people. Creating is about leaving something that lives on. My sense of this moment is how it is not only mine, but ours, always.“
