Today, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, we celebrate and honour the rich traditions, cultures, and achievements of Indigenous Peoples across Canada. This day is an opportunity to acknowledge the vibrant histories and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities.
In Burnaby, we acknowledge that we are on the shared, ancestral, and unceded territories of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ and Sḵwxwú7mesh-speaking peoples.
From 3 pm to 7 pm today at Civic Square (6100 Willingdon Ave), the City of Burnaby will host a free community celebration. The event will include an Indigenous artisans market, family activities, and a variety of performances, including dance, music, spoken word, and storytelling.
