@danapellebon is the kind of political candidate who walks out of her own event to help someone in need. Last night at her fundraiser downtown in an art space that used to be a church, a man came in off the street thinking we were a church group. Interrupting the performance that had just started, he asked us for prayers to help him stop stealing, stop going to jail, & stop drinking. Folks murmured some affirmative, kind things & he left. Dana immediately got up & walked out after him. She talked to him, gave him her number, & brought him back inside, making him a plate of food. He ended up staying for the improv performance & participating. Here is a video of her speech at the end of the event. I honestly don’t know how anyone runs for, let alone sustains being in political office, but then I watch Dana speak to a crowd of people & make them feel seen, heard, valued; I see her literally feeding folks in need rather than sticking to the script/schedule of her own fundraiser; I see her stand in the rain at the Farmer’s Market talking to anyone who will stop to listen about the changes she will bring to Dane County; I see her do these things & I am so glad that someone like Dana wants to do something like be our County Executive. The primary is August 13. It’s the only election on the ballot (there are also two referendums we’re voting AGAINST) so every vote matters. @eriseady got me for my bday. If nothing else, helping my friend campaign for office means I have lots of reasons to turn out cute looks all summer.
