📚BOOK REVIEW 📚 This is written from the lens of an autistic biologist, using science to understand people, relationships, social norms, and yourself. You can expect topics like ‘how people are like proteins’. Or how ergodic theory can help us accept the clashing desires to stand out and the need to belong. And even how Heisenberg’s theory of quantum particles can guide our split focus of ‘living in the moment’ and ‘preparing the future’. Dr Camilla Pang is very funny, mainly because she’s comfortable making fun of herself which sprinkles an entertaining & down to earth spice over an otherwise bland dish of straight up science. Being a fellow science nerd is not a prerequisite for understanding this book. Everything is explained without assumed knowledge, while also lacking the condescension that sometimes leaks from scientists talking to the lay public. Favourite quote: “…we need to accept that there is no such thing as the one perfect path forwards: there’s only the path we have the willingness, interest, and patience to discover and then pursue.” Thanks to @flexcoach_george for the book recommendation & loan, and not getting mad when I returned his book with humidity damage from reading it in the hot (and evidently moist) Argentinian summer 🔥 🥵😬

I’ve learned that in England when people say ‘Asians’ they also mean people from India and Pakistan, which kind of blows my mind even though geographically it’s Asia… but no. This is not a Lizzy approved inclusion. For some examples of Lizzy approved things from England, please see photos above.

I’m not ‘against fake boobs’. Heck - I have them (.Y.) But it’s worth asking the question: ‘𝐈𝐧 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 “𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐞” 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐝, 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐛𝐬 𝐛𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐝?’ See episode #137 of the @flex_success podcast for the full discussion 🎙

Life can move slowly then have these sudden metaphorical earthquakes of various magnitudes. It’s always interesting what gets wiped out, reordered, or remains standing. For me, training has always remained standing… my anchor of sanity 🫶🏼 I think anyone who has worked to keep training in their life for long periods of time can also attest to the gravity of its impact. The trick is to engage with training in a way that it enhances your life, not to let it engulf your life and take away from it. ~ Footage from a quick trip to Amsterdam last year.

Humanising your fruit by drawing faces on them only to decapitate them moments later may feel like a thing a mentally I’ll child would do, but as it turns out it’s actually loads of fun. RIP banana buddies 🪦🍌 🇬🇧 Pics from England

Even those at the elite level of any sport or industry make mistakes. It’s part of being human. We can’t escape them. But to repeat the same mistake too often means to develop a habit, which is different to a mistake. Don’t disguise your bad habits as mistakes. It’s not serving you any benefit.

I am writing this as I pack for London after 5 months living in Buenos Aires. While in Argentina I put up a story of me giving the finger to a picture of Maradona ⚽️ I think it’s shocking the way that he’s hailed as a hero here in Argentina in light of how he treated people off the field… immortalised with murals painted large across the country, his photo framed in more restaurants and bars than I could count. A local guy replied to this story saying he doesn’t ‘appreciate visitors disrespecting Argentinan culture’ 😑😂 I want to point out why this is ridiculous and why it’s important we continue to ‘disrespect’ in this way. 1️⃣ A world where people (yes, even ‘visitors’) are free to scrutinise public figures for the way they treat other people and the standards this set, is a world where public figures have increased pressure to act more responsibly. *boo to a world that ignores those who mistreat others because of achievements in sport. 2️⃣1 person is not exactly representative of an entire culture💩 3️⃣ When someone has an informed opinion about something, they are just as entitled to express it regardless of where they are from. *the ‘if you don’t like it go back to where you’re from’ attitude is regressive. 4️⃣ Opinions from ‘visitors’ can offer a different perspective on a person, place, or thing. *Although I think 5 months living in Argentina disqualifies me as a ‘visitor’ but whatever. 👉 Just to be clear. I’m not encouraging trying to disrespect a culture. What I am encouraging is thinking of the achievements of a person, and the actual person in the flesh and blood, as 2 seperate entities. And remembering that we can celebrate someone’s achievements WITHOUT allowing it to justify or overpower the woeful way they treated people. As @drmikethe2nd said, ‘pointing out when someone is wrong isn’t “hating on” someone. It’s caring about the people they risk harming’. (The Doctors note #198 ). I have lots more to say about my position towards the way people regard Maradona… how I acknowledge the hope he brought to a country with deep political wounds. How I know that nobody is ‘all bad’. But this is Instagram and there is a word limit so…
