“That’s where this idea of the ‘chaos angel’ came from. My own guardian angel didn’t know herself, and she had to find herself in order to be able to protect me.” — @maya_hawke In our latest digital cover story, the actor and musician discusses her sophisticated new album “Chaos Angel,” her new Flannery O’Connor biopic “Wildcat,” and the unlikely ways in which they intersect. @portugaltheman have been my favorite band since 2012 when I discovered their album 'In the Mountain in the Cloud.' I cannot tell you how many late night air guitar jams I have had to that album in my living room. I just about passed out when they asked me to remix one of their songs a couple years ago and then again when they sent me some tunes to work on, including what is now ‘Bittersweet.’" — @lpgiobbi DJ and producer LP Giobbi announced today that her sophomore album, "Dotr," will arrive on October 18 via @ninjatune , and shared the lead single featuring vocals from her favorite band. “There’s a crossover between Irish folk music and folklore and hip-hop, because storytelling in Ireland is quite central to our identity.” — Móglaí Bap, @kneecap32 Following the release of the Irish rap trio’s debut album "Fine Art," and ahead of their forthcoming self-titled biopic, we caught up with emcees Móglaí Bap and Mo Chara to dissect their global takeover. ✍️ & 📷 by @steveappleford #kneecap #floodmagazine

For the latest “Neighborhoods” session, NYC indie rockers @reboundernyc covertly played their new single “Sunset Vision” on a Manhattan tour bus. “[Performing the track has] been feeling great live, and we wanted to try our hand at doing it acoustic and showing it in a new way,” shares vocalist Noah Chenfeld of the video, in which the track is reinterpreted as an acoustic number. “Coming back to New York in the summertime, we knew we wanted to play it outside where the sun was shining, not in a windowless apartment. Noah had an idea to do it on a tourist bus. We emailed and asked, [but] by the time they said no, we’d already shot it. We had to film most of the takes on the West Side Highway—that way the bus wouldn’t stop so they couldn’t kick us out. We stayed on the bus all the way back Downtown.” Rebounder are gearing up to release their second EP, “Sunset Songs,” later this year. “X is a great band name; also a bad idea sometimes when it gets lost in print or on the marquee. Gotta have a sense of humor. We all did in the early days. Los Angeles was a carnival of weirdness back then, with left over traces of silent movie stars, long haired hippies, bikers, and brand new self-defined punks doing anything we wanted. When we started touring the country we found like-minded people everywhere, and somehow they all found us. Even if the X was lost on the old marquee.” — Exene Cervenka, @xthebandofficial There are few artists as important to the legacy of Los Angeles as punk pioneers X. After a 47 year journey with several line-up changes and stops and starts, today the original line-up of Exene Cervenka, John Doe, Billy Zoom, and DJ Bonebrake announced their final album and farewell tour together. “Smoke & Fiction” will be released August 2 via @fatpossum , along with an expansive US tour—including several hometown shows. The tour kicked off last night at the @thetroubadour , where @dwightyoakam presented them with a proclamation from the city of West Hollywood. Hit the link in our bio for more details and to watch their new video for “Big Black X." 📷 : Exene photo by @edwardcolver circa 1979, backstage at @thewhiskyagogo X band photo by @gilberttrejo38 (For more on the seminal photography of Colver, visit edwardcolver.com, as well as our conversation in FLOOD’s "Los Angeles Issue.") #x #xtheband #losangeles #punk #floodmagazine

Wales-born, LA-based musician and producer @untiltheribbonbreaks (a.k.a. Pete Lawrie Winfield) just unveiled his third album “VISITOR” last Friday, his most striking and collaborative collection of songs to date. The album traces his road to recovery from alcohol and drug addiction, as well as his philosophical view of the world around him during this time, and includes contributions from Lucius, La Pardo, Emoni Wilkins, and Homeboy Sandman. “Of all of the three full length Until The Ribbon Breaks records, this one means the most,” Winfield revealed. “Whether it was recording a rattlesnake in Joshua Tree, or traveling to Bogota, Nashville and Mexico City to record and work with incredible people and artists, there were so many reminders along the way of why I needed to do this again and why I still do.” To help commemorate the occasion, Winfield is taking over FLOOD FM this week for the latest episode of “Hacked,” offering incredible insights behind his hand-picked tunes from Pink Floyd, DJ Shadow, Run the Jewels, Aphex Twin, Sly and the Family Stone, and more. You can catch him on the air every day this week (June 24 – 28) at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m., and 10 p.m. PT only on FLOOD FM. Listen to FLOOD FM on floodmagazine.com or via Apple Music, iHeartRadio, TuneIn, Live365, Sonos Radio, or Alexa. 📷 by Whitney Maris Brown #untiltheribbonbreaks #floodfmhacked #floodfm #floodmagazine

“By the time I was recording the album, I was already on my honesty train, and since then, I’ve been catching up with the honesty train and really starting to see the positive ramifications of that in my life.” — @maya_hawke More from our revealing cover story on the singer/songwriter/actor's new album, "Chaos Angel," her most poetic and personal collection of stories to date. Austin Peralta tragically passed away at the age of 22, but his musical legacy still resonates to this day. In his short life, Peralta was already a globally recognized pianist. He performed and recorded with jazz greats such as Ron Carter and Chick Corea, as well as other iconic artists like Erykah Badu. Peralta’s final solo offering to the world was his 2011 album “Endless Planets.” Brainfeeder, Flying Lotus’s label which originally released the album, recently reissued “Endless Planets” on vinyl for the first time. We caught up with jazz-funk artist Louis Cole and Brainfeeder manager Adam Stover to celebrate the life of the artist responsible for bringing jazz into the Flying Lotus–founded label’s oeuvre.
