I've always wanted to see an Elephant Hawk-moth! Quite special to see three in our moth trap - finally in moth season! Also featuring a Shark moth, a Privet, Buff-tip, Burnished Brass and so much more. Such gorgeousness.
Finally made use of (some) the lovely willow! I've been perusing Pinterest for ages, this little arch has been inspired by a multitude of images of natural willow structures. I don't think you really get the scale of it but it's over 6ft even dug in. I'll be having a think about what to grow over it soon 💭
Loved doing our moth trap at the allotments! @fungiary and I have been documenting our local moth species at the plots. Moths are an integral pollinator and surveying biodiversity in our city green spaces is something I'm really passionate about.
A few photos from our last couple of surveys, including the Poplar Hawkmoth, White Ermine and Light Emerald, and Barred Yellow. #Mothsmatter#lincswildlifetrust
This week is #nationalmammalweek . The theme is #ForgottenMammals - make sure to check out the @mammalsociety for further details.
We wanted to share this lovely little snippet of a Common Shrew at Riseholme Park captured by @fungiary 🐾 we'll be sharing more about our #wildlifeoncampus throughout the week. The Common Shrew has a very short lifespan of about a year. They eat a diet of earthworms, slugs and snails 🐌. These tiny mammals have dense, velvety fur, a long pointed nose, small ears and most surprisingly - red teeth!
We'll be running an online workshop in preparation for mammal surveying across campuses this Friday 26 April 11:00 - 12:00, if you're interested, please drop an email to environment@lincoln.ac.uk to sign up.

Lots of jobs done at the plot, but the biggest perhaps was the start of our drainage ditch that I've begun digging down the side of the plot most prone to flooding. We'll be planting native wetland wildflowers along the edge of this once we've got it shored up. Also tidied the polytunnel, cleared a couple of beds, checked on our kale & cabbage (which survived the Winter weather) and fixed our strawberry planters. 🍓
