Sunday morning watching #Blakes7 has become something of a habit. This morning I’ve reached ‘Sarcophagus’. It’s always been a big favourite. It astounds me that something this esoteric, this conceptual and this MAD was on prime time BBC One on a Monday night. It even has a principal character bursting into a full-on original song! Nothing on telly in 1980 was doing things like this. It’s brilliant! Written by the incomparable Tanith Lee.
New Music Friday. The new British Stereo Collective album is another wonderful collection of imagined TV themes, channel idents and jingles. Right up my straße. A new single from what must be the 26th iteration of Propaganda! A fine slice of icy German synthpop it is too. And finally, a new Momus album! Still churning out wonky pop after all these years, this is a surprisingly melodic new album. I’ve loved Momus longer than I’ve loved Pet Shop Boys, which is a very long time indeed. I’m grateful he’s still around and giving us chilling songs like ‘Before The War’.
Saturday 23rd September 2000, Cruz 101. GayFest (now Manchester Pride) cheque presentation to the then Lesbian & Gay Foundation (LGF). With the lovely @iseestars27 , a young me, and an even younger @russelltdavies63 - 24 years ago!
I mean I’m not pretending this is worthy of Vogue Interiors or anything, but we finally got round to glowing up the home office space. It makes such a difference when you’re comfortable in your surroundings. Now I just want to work at home every day instead of just two days 😊
In my 25 years in Manchester I’ve never been to Salford Pride. Shocking. Remedied that today representing We Are Survivors and George House Trust. What a great event. Lovely community feel. Reminds me of the Pride’s I used to go to in Edinburgh and Glasgow. All those years ago 😂🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
I’ve been trawling through some old design folders this morning and found this. I have no recollection of creating it. I think it was one of many (unused) mock-ups I did for the #Blakes7 Annual 1982. A ‘what-if’ look at a Radio Times cover for the launch of Series D.
