Had the absolute time of my life a couple days ago, living my dream of being a direct opener for @bigwreckmusic ! I’ve been a huge fan for a long time, and getting to share the stage with them is another level of awesome. It’s been incredible so far with the mates in @jadeelephantmusic , and it’s only just beginning 😎 This first photo is so surreal for me, I’m playing on Harlequin’s set up, in front of @fortydeuce ’s set up, with @thornicus ’ guitars in the background. Absolutely a dream come true 🤯

I can smell the “more cowbell” comments coming already… MAN I love a good slow 6/4 groove, and @bigwreckmusic really knocked it out of the park with this hot track. @fortydeuce really brings their incredible series of recent EPs to a rightful close with these TASTY drum fills. This short cover took me a lot of takes, either because I would accidentally hit the cowbell, or get tripped up by Sekou’s incredible drumming genius. In an attempt to match his excellence, I added my own fill at the end, hopefully doing the song some justice. Hope you enjoy!

Oh man. I’m *finally* 18 already?! Feels like just last week I was bouncing off the walls in excitement to go bowling for my 7th birthday party. I thought I’d reflect on some of my highlights thus far, specifically the past few years. I’ve well crossed the halfway point of my senior year in high school, which seems ridiculous to think about. When I first entered the doors of a new school in grade ten, I had no idea what to expect. I was kind of terrified of what sort of journey this school would take me on, but I never could have imagined the opportunities and amazing experiences that it has provided for me. Just in these past three ish years, I have significantly deepened my passion for music; I learned to sing, I’ve explored a wider variety of genres, and hopefully I’ve vastly improved my musicianship as a whole. I’ve opened for some amazingly legendary bands, including The Cult and ZZ Top, I’ve toured western Canada, played in many venues technically illegally (which won’t be happening anymore!) sang in many performances with choir and vocal jazz, and have deepened my connection to music in a way that wouldn’t be possible without all those experiences. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by so many amazing people: I have my bands, @thestaticshift and @exit.division who are my ultimate motivators and they are always providing me with opportunities to push myself as a person and musician. I have my friends, who are the most supportive people ever. I couldn’t be any luckier to be surrounded by so many talented people. I have my amazing Julia, whom I love very much. Kocham cie 🫵🥰 And last but certainly not least, I have my parents, who have been with me every single step of my eventful life. I feel incredibly blessed to have my parents as my number one supporters no matter what, and I couldn’t be more grateful for them and the support they continue to show me. Wow, that’s a lengthy post. But I am truly floored that the big One-eight has snuck up on me this fast, but I CANNOT wait to get into some more concerts FINALLY! Can’t wait to see what paths and doors await. Thank you all for the endless birthday wishes and support!😃🤙

The Summoning by @sleep_token is surely one of my favourite songs to come out of the modern era. It has nearly EVERYTHING: heavy riffs, a hard-hitting chorus, rhythmic brain-melts, a breakdown, a guitar solo, and a complete genre-flip at the end. They even toss a drum solo into the mix when the perform this song live. @ii_sleeptoken , you’re a genius. These drum parts are legendary. SUGAR - @sleep_token When I first heard this song (thanks @0nly_casimir ) it had a Chokehold on me (no pun intended) @ii_sleeptoken ’s drum parts are always a ridiculously cool blend of metal, pop and r&b. His fills are always unique, no two are the same, and his groves always give him room to shine while still serving the song perfectly. Him and the whole band have one of the most unique sounds I’ve ever heard, and I fully intend on diving deeper and cover more of II’s parts! NEW CAMERA! I woke up on Christmas morning and found a GoPro under the tree🤭 What better way to test it out than with a @snarkypuppy cover? This cover of Bad Kids to the Back has been in the works for a long time. Learning the seamlessly-flowing solos of three GIGANTIC drummers, @larnelllewismusic , @jtondrums and @jamison_ross , was mind-melting, as they all forced me to think outside of the phrasing that I am more comfortable with. I’m in love with this song and its challenging but fun interludes and GROOVY-AS-HECK “A” sections. Happy new year, all. TesseracT’s most recent album, War of Being has been on repeat for me ever since it came out. It is easily my favourite TesseracT album yet, and it might even be my favourite prog album of all time so far. This year has been FANTASTIC for new releases from all corners of the industry. When I first heard this song (specifically this section), it blew my mind. I knew that the next few weeks of practice sessions would be devoted to learning this 11-minute prog masterpiece.
