We lost our dear Dad last month. He was 88, he lived a full life and he passed away peacefully looking out on to his garden. I’m grateful we had him so long and that he died peacefully. But the urge to call him, have a chat, tell him my news is stilll there and it’s gut-wrenching that I can’t. He and my Mum have been my ever-present guiding force throughout my life and it’s tough to accept that he’s no longer here.
I talk to him everyday. I feel his presence in everything I do and I hold him close in my heart, as my family and I face this next chapter without him. He was kind, compassionate, loved people and was incredibly funny. That’s his legacy and that’s how I want to live my life, to honour a man that taught me how to be in the world.
Soon after he passed, one of my first thoughts was how can I bring him to life again and bring some light to our family, during such a devastating time. So I got in touch with the talented
@geesinfraser and asked him to draw a picture of Dad riding his favourite dog, Thorn, whist playing the Ukulele. Within a couple of days, Fraser came back with this. I burst into tears. It captures his essence beautifully. He loved dogs and he loved music but more that that, he loved life. You can see it in his face.
I printed copies of this image for my brothers and all Dad’s grandchildren and we also had it on the last page of the order of service. A fitting tribute. Dad would have loved it.
Anyway, please consider Fraser for any surreal, funny images of your loved ones. He’s very talented and his art deserves more exposure. Do get in touch with him for something personal and something special. He’s a lovely man too.
Happy Father’s Day Dad. I’ll think of you today. I think of you everyday. You really were an incredible man and I’ll do my best to follow in your footsteps.
I love you ❤️
