Over the years, my thought on the kind of friends I want around me has significantly changed. First of all, I don’t ask “will they like me?” I think “will I like them?” Will they offer me conversations of substance, or will they consistently fall back to talking about people? Are they kind to people different than them? Are they funny, but not at other peoples expense? Will they respect my boundaries or will they ask for more than what I’m willing to give. And most of all, am I the kind of quality friend that I demand from others? Am I the kind of person to deserve friends like that. I don’t know about that last one, but I’m pretty confident in the kind of women who I want to surround myself with, and that is a power in itself. Kind. Curious. Self aware. ☀️ We are making a few changes for July. ☀️ 1. My husband is taking a couple months sabbatical to clear his mind after 25 years in corporate America. Plans? Mostly exploring the mountains, training his dog and having ZERO SCHEDULE. 2. We’re taking a two month break from @theboisebubble . It’s a lot more work than one might think and a break sounds nice. 3. We’ve tossed our Apple Watches. (For me permanently.) If it’s so urgent that people need to get in touch with us immediately, people can call. We do not need to be connected all the time. 4. Completely separating from this absolute shit show of an election year… other than voting… we are out. 5. I’m still working but not pushing it. I’m going to read a bunch of fiction, take quite a few naps, sit by the water, hang out with SAFE people, and maybe bake a little bit. Spend time with the family and take walks for enjoyment every day. Really trying to break that belief that my worth comes from my success and productivity. To be totally transparent, we had to save our pennies to be able to do this, but I’m pretty excited about it. Most people I know are slowing down instead of speeding up, and I’m absolutely loving watching it happen. Sometimes in our capitalistic society, all success comes down to the bottom line. We’re over that. We’re wanting slow days, regulated nervous systems, freedom with our time, fresh air, and good food. We’re going have to work to get all those things, but we want to work at it differently. Anyway. Happy July. I have a feeling it will be a good one. Ok. ✨ Five tips for age management. ✨ I shared a story and I can’t BELIEVE how many DMs I got about it. Basically said that my goal for aging was to do it in a way where I continue to look like myself. I’m not a huge fan of changing my appearance to achieve a youthful look, I just want to age with great skin. Apparently a lot of you are similar in that regard. Also, I showed how I went in @treasurevalleyderm to try a quick preview of their new offering - The CoolPeel. It’s a CO2 laser and instead of a two week downtime it’s three days. I’m planning on treating my entire face to help with some fine lines and pigmentation. @drdustinportela treated an age spot on my arm to give me an idea what it’s all about and I’ll show you the after once it’s healed. He explains it a lot better so swipe to hear his explanation. These are my top five tips for age management that I have been very pleased with thus far in my 40 something years. 1. Quality sunscreen EVERY DAY. I use the Dēne Flaw-less Sunshield or the Sheer Sheild. I also wear a hat or visor when the sun is particularly strong. You’ll never see me in the sun without sunglasses, because I’m trying to avoid squinting. 2. Preventative Botox. If you ever see me in person, you’ll see I make plenty of expressions. 🙃 I don’t like to be frozen, I just get enough Botox that limits the development of wrinkles. Also, I feel most comfortable when a dermatologist does that, so I have Dr. Portela help me with that. 3. Monthly facials with Dermaplaning. - I go to @nofilter.aesthetics in Meridian. 4. Good quality skin care routine. I use a vitamin A serum daily and a retinol three times a week. I use the Dēne line for both of these. (Available at @treasurevalleyderm ) 5. Daily habits - I try to stay very hydrated, limit my alcohol, and prioritize sleep. I also do lymph drainage on my face using a Gua sha tool. Bonus tip! I love going to @perspireeagle for red light therapy and to get a little sweat. Ok! Those are my tips! I’d love to know… what are yours! I’m excited to show you how this laser treatment goes! I don’t have anything to sugarcoat everything that’s going on, but I do know that I’m not alone in the way I feel. And sometimes reminding people they’re not alone is a good thing. I’m trying to chill today and drink water, be in the sun and read a book. I’m looking around at my surroundings and I’m naming everything that I’m grateful for. I’m making lists of the people in my life who make it better and the things that are in my control. Anything to lift myself out of this shadow. As someone who has worked in social media as long as it’s been possible to work in social media, I will give this one tiny piece of advice. Mindlessly scrolling social media will never make you feel better. NEVER. Make a goal now to stop the doom scrolling for the rest of the year. Find social media pages you enjoy and that uplift you. Unfollow or mute everything else. Even if it’s this page, I don’t mind at all. 🤍 Natalie
