Today, Howard University announced that the Board of Trustees has unanimously voted to accept the return of Sean Combs’ honorary degree, originally conferred in May 2014. We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Sheara Jennings, Ph.D., MSW, as dean of @husocialwork , effective July 1, 2024. A respected academic, Dr. Jennings joins Howard from the University of Houston, where she has served in various roles, including associate dean for doctoral education/Ph.D. program director in the Graduate College of Social Work (GCSW), the Humana Endowed Chair in Social Determinants of Health, and special assistant to the provost. Through partnerships with community-based organizations, Dr. Jennings has assisted in securing over $22 million for projects and programs. Her research portfolio has incorporated support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Family and Youth Services Bureau. Jennings has also been published in respected journals including Family Process, Child Abuse and Neglect, and the Journal of Applied Gerontology. We also want to thank Dean Sandra Crewe for her decades of excellent service to the University and sterling leadership of the School of Social Work. With over eighteen years of progressive experience in central office post-award management within higher education, Gholston is well prepared to lead and innovate in this pivotal role. Before Howard, Gholston was the director of sponsored accounting and cost analysis at Stevens Institute of Technology, where he was instrumental in crafting and implementing a transformative financial compliance strategy that substantially enhanced the research administration framework.
