Dear Margaret Sanger is a new musical written by the acclaimed singer-songwriter– Inara George; the grammy-nominated pianist, keyboardist and composer–Larry Goldings; and the celebrated director and writer– Jennifer Chang. The story is inspired by the letters of real women to Margaret Sanger, whose advocacy for both reproductive choice and the insidious eugenics movement reverberates through the decades. The play explores the history of birth control and the struggle for reproductive freedom which continues to this day. This new musical piece will be presented as a staged reading on October 8th and 9th benefiting Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum

I’m fairly certain most of you know that I've been working with @larrygoldings on this musical/ piece for a few years now. The show deals with the history of birth control and reproductive rights in America. We’ve brought on board the incredibly talented @iamtherealchanginator to help form and guide this collection of songs into a story. And we’ve enlisted the insane talents of #billcox @itsmelindasullivan @jessicarauvoice @eliasaldanagram @thisisrozzi @grayson_heyl @meloramarshall and #jadaowens On October 8th & 9th we will be sharing what we’ve been up to at the Theatricum Botanicum in a reading of the piece in this early stage, which will be open to the public, and where the proceeds will go to benefit the @theatricum_botanicum Would love to see you there. This is my mom at the Grand Canyon, seemingly eating Chinese food. In this picture she’s 8 months pregnant driving cross country with my dad and my brothers(4 and 5 years old)to go live temporarily and have a baby in Baltimore, Maryland while my dad was working there. She didn’t have a doctor there. She didn’t have a house set up. She just did it all when she got there. And when you ask in amazement, “how did you do all that, with 2 young boys and hardly any help?” She just shrugs her shoulders. She just did it. My mom is also the one you call out to when you find a baby rattlesnake in the yard. She just comes with a shovel and very humanely chops it’s head off. Quick and painless. But when the snakes full grown and less dangerous, she’ll take a hose and spray them till they move on down the hill. She is tough, no doubt about it. And she likes to stir the pot. But she’s also kind and generous and extremely sensitive. She cries at just about everything. She misses her mom on Mother’s Day, like so many of you do. She’ll cry and say like a little girl, “I miss my mom”. And so I feel lucky. I feel so grateful that I still get to see and hug my mom. So I’m sending all of you who miss their moms so much love. And of course, I’m celebrating my sweet and feisty mom as best and as big as I can. I love you “momy”.
