Good Trouble ep 5015
It’s My Party I Can Die If I Want To
The B/W episode!
This unique Good Trouble episode was an absolute blast to color grade and required a different approach to achieve the “noir look” the creatives were going for. Working with super talented cinematographer Patrick Rousseau
@shortframe who came up with this amazing look for the cast, who are themselves playing characters in a murder mystery.
Special attention was placed lighting on set for the high contrast look which really works to capture that vintage feel. Camera tests were done early on to help out with the challenges of having characters both in color and also in b/w (sometimes in the same frame) moving in and out of the noir look.
For the monochrome look, l used a lot of references from old b/w films, noting how key and fill levels were used, as well as adding film grain to the characters.
Shout out to KMP editorial (Zack Davis & Chad Warner) as well as the many talented
VFX artists who provided mattes to help achieve this look!
