After wowing audiences as part of Béla Fleck’s touring band in 2022, mandolinist Jacob Jolliff will be coming to the Otter Opry with his own band in tow on Tuesday, July 9th. A former member of two massively popular progressive bluegrass bands, Joy Kills Sorrow and the Yonder Mountain String Band, Jacob Jolliff is one of the country’s premier contemporary mandolinists. Today, the mandolinist’s primary focus is the Jacob Jolliff Band, a group of virtuosic pickers that play Jacob’s original instrumentals and showcase his singing. This will definitely be a concert to write home about, so get your tickets now.

I’m so excited to play @dorrigofolkbluegrassfest on Gumbainggir Country in October along with a bunch of my musical heroes and my darling friends 💙 In celebration of the news I took a turn at one of my favourite ‘Dorrigo’ tunes, @johnreischman ’s beautiful Horses of Dorrigo, on the octave mandolin on this cold, rainy June day in the desert (ever so slightly more gritty and leisurely than John plays it 🐌😂). I picked up this instrument three months ago now, I’ve heard @theotherethansetiawan call her an ‘unwieldy beast’ before, and damn he’s right, but you’ve gotta love her in spite and because of it 🧡 Come come come to Dorrigo, it’s going to be magical ✨ Evidenced by the fact that world class musicians keep writing tunes about it and keep coming back to play. See you on the last weekend in October xo
NOW IN PREORDER: @ezraquartet explores the intersection of microtonal synthesis and progressive bluegrass music on their Cantaloupe debut Earth to EZRA. Featuring contributions from the Bang on a Can All-Stars’ Mark Stewart and keyboardist Xak Bjerken, the album is a wild, whimsical and otherworldly journey, channeling a freewheeling mix of group improv and practiced songcraft.
Most intriguingly, Earth to EZRA also debuts the first recorded use of the Moog-Rothenburg keyboard, from a prototype designed by theorist David Rothenberg and built by renowned synth pioneer Robert Moog in the mid 1960s.

For this album, we teamed up with Bang on a Can All-Stars’ Mark Stewart and keyboardist Xak Bjerken. The album is a wild, whimsical and otherworldly journey into the unlikely intersection of progressive bluegrass music and microtonal synthesis. We are excited to release this album with Cantaloupe Music.
Earth to EZRA also debuts the first recorded use of the microtonal Moog-Rothenburg keyboard, from a prototype designed by theorist David Rothenberg and built by renowned synth pioneer Robert Moog in the mid 1960s. The 478-key instrument divides the octave into 31 equal parts, but was never actually functional until 2023, when electronic music scholar and instrument builder Travis Johns began the meticulous process of making the organ playable.
Head over to Bandcamp to preorder the album, and give a listen to“Mask,” the album’s first single, composed and sung by EZRA’s Jesse Jones.
