What a TelluRIDE. There’s no place like it. It was an honor to return to perform at the @planet.bluegrass Telluride Bluegrass Festival this year in the songwriter contest. Amazing gathering of songsters, abutted by high mountain sun, a pretty good amount of thunder and pelting rain, and plenty of Tempter IPAs. Kudos to everyone who shared a bit of their heart in applying, to all the ten finalists (I took 4th this go round), and to @martingilmoremusic on the big win 🤘

It’s been a rollercoaster of a year thus far. Big climbs, sudden falls, a couple belly rolls— all at full throttle for this train. I probably went beyond the manufacturer’s recommended runtime too. And when you do that, wheels are gonna come off. Thankfully this one was a @michelin , so it did so gently, and a fine gentlemen named Gilbert scooped us off a particularly hairy part of the I-70 track. I’m thankful for when things go wrong the right way in this case 🙏. Lots more to talk about on weeks past and present, but for this here moment, just takin a few breaths amidst a brief respite between laps on this year’s coaster…

The single for Part II of the Forever Morning journey drops today. ‘The Fighting’ represents the heart of the conflict in our story, in some ways mirrored in my own life in the writing process. When conflict naturally arises in our lives, (some conflict far more dire than others), as we see wars and unnecessary suffering at an unimaginable scale… “the shells explode and the smoke is in your eyes.” And in those moments we’re faced with impossible choices - “will you run and hide, or stumble closer to the fighting?” While there’s clearly no good answer, you move forward, you do your best to find a way through and find meaning and purpose. You have to turn this one up, folks. @artes.orthia kept the motor humming on the drums, @soundofhoney kept the foot on floor on the low end, and I did my best keeping my hands on the wheel driving the electrics. 📸 @jaketovar.co

I’m honored, humbled, floored, stoked - all the things - to be returning to Telluride as a finalist in the Troubadour Songwriter Competition this year @planet.bluegrass . . . . “Ravens”, which comes out April 26 in Part 1 of “Forever Morning” did the heavy lifting for me. 🙏 to all the forces and humans of the universe that brought that one into the world.
