I've written and rewritten this caption a few times now. I don't want to be too sappy, but I kind of do.... I never had sisters growing up. Other than my dance friends, I honestly haven't often had many close gal pals in general. I lost my brother 2 years ago, almost to this day. Sometimes it feels normal and sometimes it feels really alienating, to be an only child when I thought we would grow old together. But when I decided to come to this event (kind of at the last minute because I've been too busy to sort out travel arrangements properly) and I walked into the luau and saw my crew.... well, I was reminded why I do this. From the outside, it may look like lipstick and flounce and cool cars & sometimes that's true. But it's also about seeing someone's face light up because they didn't realize you were coming, having a buddy to lace up your dress, everyone making sure one another was hydrated and had the photos they needed and wanted, having someone make sure you always had a drink in your hand because you forgot your wallet with your too-small purse, hugs and kisses and spinning around the dance floor, "get home safe", and honest to Goddess family. It's really rare to find people like this (and a few other not pictured, but y'all know who you are!). And I left this weekend with a heart so full and happy not only because of pin-up stuff, even though that was all awesome, but also because of each and every one of you absokutely lighting up my life:
