Get the large plant look for less 👇 Elevate your pot with a plant stand to make any plant immediately look taller, fuller, and more mature! We also LOVE using this trick in the shop to create dimension among all the plant displays, which is the perfect hack for plant collectors wanting to spice up their displays at home! But the best part about this plant stand is… It’s adjustable and easily customizable to any pot! Just adjust the legs of this $45 wooden plant stand to fit any pot at home 🤍

Snipping your plant for growth? Trust us, it works! When you see older leaves start to yellow, wilt, and die off, those leaves are still directing energy away from the plant that could be used for new leaves. Just like we shed hair, sometimes your plant has to shed old leaves. If your plant is in otherwise good health and soil is well aerated and drying up properly in between waters, then prune away those yellow leaves and move on with your day! It helps your plant divert its energy into positive growth rather than maintaining leaves that are not going to be around much longer. These yellowing/dying leaves do NOT mean that your plant is dying — as long as: 🔸 there continues to be new growth on the plant 🔸 yellowing/dying leaves are occurring in the oldest or smallest or lowest leaves on your plant. . . . . #plantcare #plantcaretips #plantcarereels #plantcareisselfcare #houseplantreels #houseplantcare #houseplantshop #plantshop #plantstore #washingtondc #unionmarketdc #shopsmalldc

A couple things to know about Ficus Audrey: These beauties prefer bright indirect light, so they’re best in settings with a large window nearby. Keep it in well draining soil and a pot with drainage. Only water when the top 2-3 inches of soil are dry! Ficus Audrey are also available in bush, column, or standard varieties to give you options for size, branching, and volume of leaves: 🔸 Bush-variety Ficus have multiple plants per pot, and each plant will have leaves covering the entire stalk. All 4” and 6” plants tend to be bush-variety because of their small size. 🔸 Column-variety Ficus have one or two plants per pot, and tend to have leaves covering the entire stalk or nearly the entire stalk. Column-variety Ficus stalks tend to have minimal branching. 🔸 Standard-variety Ficus have a single plant in the pot with a thick trunk. Leaves will only be at the top and there will be significant branching. This is the most similar to a mature tree you see outside! Now that you’re nearly an expert on Ficus Audrey, which size are you taking home this week?

I always say this to struggling plant parents: 🪴 Having plants should be fun! If it’s stressful or discouraging, throw it away and start fresh. Don’t forget, even seasoned plant owners run into problems. It’s all about learning from experience! So, don’t count yourself out of the game just because you lost a few plants. You just haven’t found your perfect match yet! This is exactly what I would recommend if you’re ready to try again with a new leafy buddy: 1. Visit your local plant shop (HEY, DC! 👋) and speak to your plant expert. Let them know your lifestyle, how frequently or infrequently you’re home to care for a plant, your light situation, pets, and any other relevant info to get some suggestions to fit your lifestyle 2. Learn up of simple light, water, and soil best practices for your plant. When in doubt, just water thoroughly to get the soil fully saturated and wait to water again until the top 1-2 inches of soil are fully dry. Pro tip: Do not use big box store gardening soil (😉) to repot your houseplants as it is much too dense. Ask your local plant shop for their recommendation 3. Keep your new plant indoors with an indirect light source! (Yep, plants can get sunburnt, too!)
