An excerpt from Kate’s essay on Robbins✍🏼:
Jerome Robbins started his career at age 6... composing his music. His compositions led him to his love for dancing. Jerome Robbins was born on October 11, 1918, in Manhattan NY. His career started as a ballet dancer in 1937. His career was filled with grace and beauty and he created beautiful ballets. He later created jazz and pedestrian dances and put them into shows. He won 4 Tony Awards, 5 Donaldson Awards, 2 Emmy Awards, The Screen Directors’ Guild Award, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for his shows Fiddler on the Roof, The King and I, and West Side Story. He is very unique because of his skillful use of contemporary American themes in ballets and Broadway and Hollywood musicals. Jerome Robbins created 54 ballets and directed more than 20 Broadway shows. He was inspired by George Balanchine. He choreographed Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, Peter Pan, On the Town, Gatsby, high button shoes, and a funny thing happened on the way to the forum! He also did many more Broadway shows! Jerome Robbins passed away on July 29, 1998, at age 79. Although he is no longer with us, his legacy continues in his choreography and dance, which is known all over the world.🌎❤️
