An easy 6 hours drive took me to Las Cruces, NM to judge the Miss New Mexico USA pageant this past weekend. First up: an early Friday morning interview in El Paso at KTSM-TV, before the preliminaries on Saturday. For contestant Interviews, I wore the lavender lace outfit, which was comfortable to sit in for several hours (as well as airy to try and stay cool in the New Mexico heat!), and the hot pink kimono made me feel bright, despite the monsoon storm that evening. Finals were the next day, and after a lovely lunch with my fellow judges and the auditors at La Posta (an experience in itself!), we crowned new titleholders that will head to Miss USA/Miss Teen USA in less than a month. It was a Global Beauty Awards reunion at Up Pageantry’s Miss Placer County competition in Roseville, CA! I was delighted to see Breona Calvert (GBA Most Patriotic), Tami Uhler (3x GBA winner, including Best Pageant Owner 2024), Jacy Uhler (Dr. Connie Mariano Best in Healthcare), Bailey Breen (winner of the first Kerry Damiano Style Award in 2023), and the recipient of the Kerry Damiano inaugural Faith in Action Award, Dr. Kennedy Garcia. After a record long reign as Miss Idaho USA and Miss Idaho Teen USA (22 months), Hannah Menzner and Angelina Ryan passed on their respective crowns to their successors, Miss Idaho USA 2024 Kaitlyn Widmyer (founder of Coeur d’Alene Fashion Week) and Miss Idaho Teen USA 2024 Ally Feely. For the first time in 4 years, the pageant returned to a packed auditorium at the Special Events Center at Boise State University. I loved catching up with friends Kim Layne (Miss Idaho USA 2020), Evelyn Clark (Miss WA USA 2019), Katarina Schweitzer (Miss ID USA 2021), Jenna Beckstrom (Miss ID Teen USA 2022), Marie Widmyer (Mrs. Idaho American 2022) and more. Attending a pageant is like going to a reunion every time!
