We're honored to share that Estítkw Place has been named a finalist in two prestigious categories for the 2024 HAVAN Awards: 1. Excellence in Building Products and Technology 2. BC Housing Award for Excellence in Housing Solutions Estítkw Place, led by Hiy̓ám̓ Housing @squamishnation and developed in partnership with @dialogdesign , Lu’Ma Development, and @nuqomodular , is a 55-unit affordable housing development located on Capilano Road, North Vancouver. It provides critical housing and support services for vulnerable Sḵwxwú7mesh Nation members in British Columbia. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in making Estítkw Place a reality, and to the @havanofficial for this recognition! Congratulations to all the other finalists of this year’s HAVAN Awards! This is how we started back in 1980, by focusing on the single-family home market. Over the years, Kindred’s services evolved to include commercial, multi-family, and institutional projects. Up and Ready! The crane for our 981 Davie project is fully assembled, marking a major milestone in our journey to create 154 new affordable housing units in the heart of Davie Village, Downtown Vancouver. This 17-storey, high-performance building features a hybrid mass timber structure built to Passive House standards. This approach not only reduces carbon emissions but also sets a new precedent for high-performance urban living. The development will include a mix of affordable housing units for the 2SLGBTQI+ community and a new home for the @qmunity Resource Centre on the first two floors. Kindred Construction is honored to be working alongside @chfbc , @bchousing , the @cityofvancouver , @zgfarchitects and @fastepp to bring this innovative approach to multifamily residential construction to Vancouver. We are honoured to announce that our GEC King Edward project has won the Georgie Award for Best Multi-Family Low Rise up to 6 Storeys! This award is a recognition of the importance of addressing the need for increased supply in student housing in Vancouver. GEC King Edward is a three-storey residential building dedicated solely to student housing. This development has created new homes for up to 220 students, alleviating some of the pressure they face in finding suitable off-campus homes in Vancouver. The building features three wood-framed structures, 44 rental homes, and a beautiful shared open courtyard. It also boasts an eco-friendly design, with green rooftops on the townhouses and a design targeting LEED Gold certification. Estítkw Place is honored to receive the @havanofficial Award for Excellence in Building Products and Technology! Estítkw Place is part of the @squamishnation visionary initiative to 'Bring Squamish Home.' This 55-unit affordable housing development is designed to provide supportive housing to members of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nation, focusing on individuals facing disabilities, homelessness, mental health and substance abuse challenges, as well as LGBTQ2SIA+ (Two-Spirited) individuals. Estítkw Place emphasizes cultural engagement as a healing catalyst, aiming to mitigate the enduring effects of colonial policies through culturally rooted practices, land-based programming, and decolonization efforts. The housing complex, built with modular modules, includes 52 studios and 3 one-bedroom units, and is equipped with a commercial grade kitchen and communal dining area where resident receive hot and cold meals daily. The award recognizes the innovative modular technology used in this project, which expedited the construction process, allowing completion within an incredible 12-month timeframe. This recognition celebrates the collaborative efforts with Hiy̓ám̓ Housing, @dialogdesign , Lu’Ma Development, and @nuqomodular to bring this much-needed affordable housing development to life. Yesterday marked a significant milestone as we celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for the Vienna House project. Once completed, this 7-storey, passive house, multi-family building will provide 123 non-market and market rental units, addressing critical housing needs in our community. Vienna House stands as a beacon of innovation, born from a collaborative effort between the City of Vancouver and the City of Vienna. This pilot initiative serves as a platform for knowledge-sharing, aimed at advancing construction solutions that tackle affordability, climate change, and social equity. Our overarching goal is to deliver high-performance buildings that set a new standard for affordable housing projects not only in Vancouver but across the province and beyond.
