Our first artist is drag performer
@kittykapowww . As the producer of
@hex.sf , co-host of
@crsecretspod , and manager of
@prettyininkelectric , they wear a lot of hats. We asked them how these roles shaped them as a performer. Here is their answer:
“I don’t believe in luck, at least not for myself. I learned coming up in an arts school, where I definitely didn’t fit into the traditional track to success, that doors aren’t going to open for me easily. I found that if I invested in preparedness and leaped at an opportunity as soon as I saw it, I could shove my foot into the smallest crack in a door. This is really how I have started almost anything.
These roles have become essential parts of my life because of a new kind of preparedness I developed in my 20s - building community. I know I have the skills to put on a cabaret or do administrative work for a small business. It is the trust I’ve been given by the artists I get to collaborate with that makes all of this fulfilling work possible. On top of that, I get to take copious amounts of inspiration and support from the creatives in my life and pour it straight into my own artistry. Again, I don’t believe in luck, but I really do feel lucky to be living this life as a queer creator in the Bay Area.”
