17th April was another fascinating day of my life , it was my privilege to attend the book release of Amal Allana’s book on Respected Ebrahim Alkazi “Holding Time Captive” we fondly called him Chacha , he was the man who shaped my destiny in the field of Theater and made me believe in myself .The evening was nostalgic experience, reliving the days at NSD , Every thing done on that iconic stage of Royal Opera House was a true tribute to Alkazi Sahib , done with great care and precision , congratulations Amal for the wonderful Show , will read the book and then we will share my reactions KK
“An experience of life time “ One day in the year 2019 , I received a phone call from Joti Prasad ji regarding our production of Henrick Ibsen’s most celebrated play Ghosts adapted as “Peecha Karti parchhaiyan “ by ila Arun . I asked him where do you want to do the Show? He said Barpeta a small town in Assam . Honestly speaking I had heard the name for the first time . I discussed this with our theatre members and they felt we should not go to a remote place like Barpeta with a serious play like "Peecha karti parchhaiyan" instead we should do a comedy play "Namaste Jai Shri Krishna “ there . I discussed this with Joti Prasad ji but he insisted that they want Ghosts .we accepted with lot of apprehension and reached Barpeta . It was a pleasant surprise that Joti ji had a small group of people who were organising this theatre festival . It was a great feeling to interact with the members of the group . All were involved with the festival and were careful to look after the visiting groups to best of their ability , they are simple and honest people .The theatre facilities were simple and ordinary . Even the theatre was bereft of any modern facility . looking at the passion and sincerity of the group we thought that we have to do our best whatever the circumstances . Now our fear was how the play will be received by non Hindi speaking audiences . On 29th December 2019 we performed Ghosts there , to our great surprise the reaction to the play was extraordinary , people loved the play and understood every bit of it . This perhaps was the best reaction we had received to our play in whole of India , we were looked after so well with love and affection and I cannot forget the dinner we had together after the show , unforgettable experience . simplicity is the strongest way to connect with people,we fell in love with barpeta and it's natural beauty the people are very friendly and we remember the theatre members of joti ji's group and it was learning experience to hear there thoughts about theatre.we are eagerly waiting to come again to Barpeta , and experience a new high in human interaction. Thanks KK Raina
