May we co-create the world we wish to see, and begin by dreaming it on the dance floor.” 📸 @obhishekdekhchi 🎨 @chonleriano and @leticiaacalzadilla 📝 @_errancy_ & @kopanoart Kopano’s (TSiBiNKi) laugh floods the room, as they begin to talk about their journey as a south african-american cultural worker. A trained violinist and ballet dancer, who later found their true passion in playing piano, songwriting, and singing. “Back in 1998, my parents were on the phone with my aunt in South Africa to decide my name. Kopano — a sesotho word for unity/reunion/gathering. I feel like my message as an artist is in my name: finding the purpose of unity stemming from a communal struggle. I think of myself as a cultural worker at labor to and for the pan-african struggle.” Interviewing Kopano felt like dancing and talking at the same time. Their tonality changes and synesthetic noises beautifully colored their narrative of their art and world view. Kopano/TSiBiNKi is a musician, and a DJ, and a dancer; they are a human embodying immense raw and unmasked talent that can only be experienced, not described Come experience TSiBiNKi on the 29th of March DM @_errancy_ for tickets.
