The earth lost a gem yesterday. I met
@sidneyfelsen when I worked at Samy’s Camera. I quickly became his go-to person there to help with film processing and prints. I held on every word he said of the company he co-founded,
@geminigel . He’d show me photos of the most important artists of the 20th century. Beautiful photos HE took! Sidney asked if I wanted a tour of Gemini and, “um, heck yeah, when?” After the tour, I cornered him in his office and said, “I don’t know what I could do, but I really want to work here!” A few months later I had coffee with Sidney and Stanley (his business partner) and was hired as an art seller, and then became the manager by default a couple months later! Though I realized it wasn’t really for me, but it was my grad school. I made life-long friends, and had incredible experiences I cherish. I was so fond of Sidney. He and I both went to Fairfax High, shared a love of photography and art. He leant me cameras (see that cool Olympus) and treated me with love, kindness and Sweet Lady Jane princess cakes. I will miss him. My heart goes out to Suzanne and Joni and the entire Gemini family.
