Please join us tonight for closing night of the 2024 LAJFF and the premiere of @matisyahu new documentary, “Song of Ascent - Live in Wartime Israel, 10/7 & Beyond.” The film will highlight this year׳s film theme of “Fighting Antisemitism One Film at a Time.” It will be a meaningful night for the community!
Last night, I had the privilege of attending the premiere of COLLEYVILLE, directed by @dani.menkin 🎬
It’s an incredible documentary about the Colleyville synagogue hostage crisis. On January 15th 2022, a terrorist entered a synagogue on Saturday morning and held 4 people hostage for 11 hours. They had welcomed him in because he seemed like a stranger who just needed to come in from the cold.
The service was live-streamed on Facebook, so they’ve got all the footage. Plus everything from all the security cameras and news reports. It was a harrowing event, and it was handled remarkably by all involved, especially Charlie Cytron-Walker, also known as Rabbi Charlie.
Please take a few minutes to WATCH & LISTEN to Rabbi Charlie’s wise words from last night. Rabbis always say it best.
I highly recommend watching this documentary when it’s available, which will hopefully be soon. You’ll be on the edge of your seat the entire time. But it’s also a celebration of the human spirit, and how we come together in times of crisis & times of need. It’s about humanity.
Congrats to the filmmakers and thank you to everyone who shared their stories from that unbelievable day.
