as a woman, odds are you know what it is to be afraid to speak up. to feel as if your voice does nothing but blend into the chaos of the world around you, that the words you finally scream die upon release and melt into the opinions of others. your outfit is the reason why. you shouldn’t have been there. you shouldn’t have had that last drink. you asked for it. sometimes i feel like im so used to apologizing for my existence that it’s become so normal for me to feel so inconvenient. the problem is that the anger is still there, bubbling under the self condemnation. and it accumulates until I’m a fiery burst of fumbled words and emotion that gets on everything caught within my field of view. and then i retreat again to the apologies and the smallness. it’s a cycle that must be broken.
