@rex_abandon made these bandanas to benefit some rad organizations awhile back and I’ve been carrying one along on some of my outdoor travels. A reminder of sorts, even during an “escape”. One of my favorite moments was meeting this ancient White Bark Pine that had recently been visited by a bear who had made deep lacerations in the bark to lick some sap, I’m assumimg :) It had multiple trunks, most likely planted by a local Clark’s Nutcracker generations ago. It was surrounded by a hillside of blooming Angelica, fragrant Mountain Coyote Mint, and Owl’s Clover. I wish I could have sat under the glowing needles of that tree forever... I haven’t been coming on here much as it’s not good for my already scattered mind, but hit me up if you want to take a distanced hike or talk about what you have been reading lately. 🌈🤍💖💙🤎🖤❤️🧡💛💚💜🌈
I experienced a lot of beautiful places over the last month but meeting the ancient Emory Oaks (Quercus emoryi) at Oak Flat and learning about this sacred site was the most special to me. We met @shii.she.visions who lives on the Saint Carlos Reservation. She spoke about her beautiful art, gardening, teaching and activism work with the Apache Stronghold. Oak Flat is a sacred site to the local Apache and is under immediate threat of being developed into a huge copper mine that will devastate this site and the ecology of the area for miles. If you are interested in how to help, follow @protectoakflat and come to the march in February if you can. Comments about the project to the government will close in November.
Not sure why I never posted about the beautiful trip I took with @blueotterschool a few weeks ago. It’s rare to be with a group of people who want to just be and take in a place, and learn of course :) Thank you! Special thanks to @wolfstarherbs as well! ✨
