** NIRVANA IN SANTA FE **
This Thursday, June 27th, is the 35th anniversary of Nirvana’s only time playing live in Santa Fe. Booked by Brian Curley (of 27 Devils Joking), the show featured Brian’s band and Monkeyshines (another local band). It took place at a short-lived venue called the “Rockin’ T.P.” located at 4300 Cerrillos Road (it is now a Kelly’s Liquors). Maybe (?) a hundred people were there.
These were the early days of the band– before fame and infamy– even before Dave Grohl (Chad Channing was still the drummer). There’s actually a grainy video on Youtube of the event you can still see!
To celebrate this auspicious anniversary, and our sixth anniversary as a record store in Santa Fe, we teamed up with Brian Curley to turn his original screen-printed poster for the show into a t-shirt! There’s lots of great details in the poster– from the faces of the 3 members of Nirvana to the map at the bottom showing the venue location (with the “Villa Linda Mall” as a reference point!)
And the shirts are available now at the shop in sizes from XS to 3XL. Come grab one!

🚨 BIGGEST VINYL DROP OF 2024... Continued! 🚨
Back to our Major MAJOR drop this weekend— some serious heat is hitting the wall and the new arrivals bin! Just today TWELVE new wall records plus dozens of rarities in new arrivals. (see below for details on this video’s records...)
It’s all because of this crazy collection we spent 3 days combing through in Albuquerque. The man was a flea market dealer in the 70’s in ABQ, selling new records he got from the distro (but at the flea market). Around 1980, he closed up shop... but kept his entire inventory (9,000 LPs!) — we picked up the cream of the crop— about 1,000 LPs (plus 2,000 45s we’ll talk about another time!) — This stuff is WILD— first pressing classic rock, picture discs, Japanese pressings, tons of audiophile pressings, rare psych and, in what is basically a first for us, a MAJOR dollop of rare SOUL and FUNK LPs (never see this stuff here!) Most of the LPs are in tip top shape and there’s even 90’s records (?!?!)
So what’s going on the wall?
Tracy Chapman — SEALED (never opened!) 1988 1st pressing; HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH 1st press from 1995; Ben Folds Five - Whatever and Ever Amen — clean 1st pressing in the shrinkwrap (1997 !); Tom Petty’s Into the Great Wide Open (1991) — never had an OG of this one and it’s clean; a TEST PRESSING of the Cure’s Love Song single from 1989, and a 1st pressing of STEP BY STEP, the 1976 breaks-heavy funk killer!
And those are just the ones going on the wall! Saturday we’ve got wild stuff in the new arrivals bin from killer funkers The South Side Movement, 1st pressings of WILLIAM DEVAUGHN, FUNKY NASSAU, SLY STONE and other soul monsters. As well as more 1st pressings from THE CURE, Clint Black, SAM COOKE, Oingo Boingo, SINEAD O’CONNOR and SO MANY MORE!
The drop continues Sunday— a drop worthy of a Saturday for that day, too!

Another Saturday, another loaded drop for the wall! Just picked up hundreds of killer albums in Albuquerque and starting to roll them out… wall records today include the ever sought after MAGGOT BRAIN, Norma Tanega’s WALKING MY GAT NAMED DOG, two super clean first press MILES DAVIS LPs, two killer early synth private press rarities: A. MASHAYEKI from 1980 and DRAHCIR ZTIWOROH from 1981; plus a first press of THIS HEAT and a couple of never opened/sealed classic rock LPs: ROGER WATERS’ The Pros and Cons of Hitch-Hiking and THE BEATLES’ White Album- the 1985 German pressing on white vinyl!!!

** FRESH DROP **
Another Saturday, another drop of fresh vintage psych rock, experimental and early synthesizer LPs! The wall is getting TWO West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band albums plus one from Philly’s The Mandrake Memorial, as well as the first Timothy Leary LP on… Folkways! On the experimental/synth side of things, we’ve got DENIS WIZE’s Consciousness Program, a wild private press item from 1980, as well as two rarities from the hard-to-pronounce genius ILHAN MIMAROGLU.

It’s Lost Padre Records’ SIXTH birthday and we’ve got a party all lined up to celebrate in Santa Fe with New Orleans’ THE DESLONDES !
The multi-frontmanned roots rockers are making their Santa Fe debut at our free show on the Plaza Tuesday July 16th. That’s not all, though- we’ll also have local singer-songwriter extraordinaire ESTHER ROSE on hand with a rare appearance by her full band (!)

** MIKEY RAE LISTENING PARTY **
Thursday June 20th we’ve got a special event at the shop- a listening & record release party for MIKEY RAE and the Mikey Rae Family Band’s double LP!
The LP contains unreleased music by Mikey and friends, plus artwork by the man himself. It’s a remarkable tribute and keepsake produced by his family with help with many folks and n Santa Fe and also just a really cool object.
We’ll have copies of the album available, refreshments and will be listening to the album and hearing a few words from friends and perhaps a song or two will be performed as well.

** SANTA FE’s NEW COFFEE SPOT **
Muchos aplausos for @rmxab ‘s new spot on Guadalupe Street! @machetecooksandcleans is pulling the coffee just right and the vibes, as the kids are saying these days, are most definitely right.
Check out the vinyl-centric decor— have we ever sat on LPs? (On purpose?) not sure but it works! The sound system is great and the turntables have pride of place next to the bar.
With the closure of @35northcoffee , downtown has been missing some quality drip and these guys got the goods! And you can get coffee all day long. Can’t say enough good things.
