A few shots from yesterday’s @riverwalkclassic Posing Clinic. A big thanks to the photographers @photographerzackwilkinson and @soffitography for taking some great shots. And big thanks to @sunnifitness and @michaelagaytan for putting it all together. The athletes came out with a purpose and seemed to gather a lot of understanding for what was taught. Riverwalk Classic is on August 3rd in San Antonio.

This is a whole body workout done with just a rack, bench, barbell, and plates. It would be recommended to perform 2-6 sets of each exercise, getting close to failure on each. @roguefitness #barbellfitness

This is a quick workout for those suffering from many types of low back pain. The selected exercises tend to be minimally aggravating to the low back structures and should be both safe and effective for keeping you in shape while you recover (preferably with @revivalperformancept ). Try doing this workout twice a week, performing 2-4 challenging sets per exercise. Once that gets easy, you can bump it to 3x per week. #lowbackpain #pitsharksquats #performancetraining @roguefitness

Some days are just really good days. And today seeing Eira @eiralv take the stage made it a great day. We would all do well to learn from the example she’s set by stepping outside of her ordinary comfort zone, for taking it upon herself to stay consistent on newly formed habits, and for committing to a goal that was originally so far out in front of her that it would be very easy to drag your feet until the day has arrived. The Lyceum family, all of it, is proud. A huge shout out goes to @posing_queen_ for her help in prepping Eira to have incredible stage presence.

When seeking maximum strength/muscle building creating the most stable exercise you can will ensure the greatest possible force production. This will intuitively make sense if you think of it in terms of running at your maximal speed. Can you run your max speed most effectively on an even, level track or on hilly, loose gravel? This can lose a problem with the beloved (hated) Bulgarian split squat (BSS). Because it is inherently an unstable exercise it is hard to get max force production out of it, which normally makes it kind of a second rate strength builder. However, borrowing some stability from the @boltfitnesssupply swing arms, we can increase the stability and get a higher rate of force production. Basic rules for quad building still apply: controlled eccentric, maximal knee bend, and upright torso position. This exercise allows you to focus heavily on one quad at a time and, unlike many other quad forced exercises, doesn’t put much strain on the lower back. #bulgariansplitsquats #boltfitnesssupply

You know you have cool members when you show up and this kind of stuff is on your board in an unprompted manner.

When @natura_lumina and @roguefitness team up to make great hair and great reps this is what you get. Take note that these reps are executed with complete range of motion and control in both directions. @eiralv is using a forceful concentric (lifting) phase and controlled eccentric (lowering phase). This is optimal for muscle growth and injury reduction.

Total glute building will eventually demand a very complete range of motion, which means the hip will need to be flexed to the greatest degree you can safely muster. #glutebuilding #lyceumgym

Healthy aging is a topic long discussed and full of highly diverse opinions. Some subscribe to the school of thought that we should try to age comfortably by not stressing out the body too much. Others, like Kristie here, at age 70, live by a rather different philosophy and one that is shared by Lyceum. We believe it is wise to maintain or even improve on physical performance and to retain the ability to actively participate in all areas of life. If you don’t want to be a spectator in your own life then this is likely the philosophy that’ll get you there. Kristie worked up to a 73.5lbs overhead squat for 5 reps. Badass hardly covers it. #healthyaging
