No matter your stance or religion, I urge you to go. The objects in this exhibit bear scars of a massacre; bullet-riddled bathroom stalls. Burned-out cars caked in ash. Dusty sandals, shattered eyeglasses, abandoned camping tents. All of these items were recovered from the field in southern Israel where thousands of young people had come together last fall for the open air Tribe of Nova music festival. On Oct. 7, Hamas terrorists breached the nearby border with Gaza and opened fire, killing 360 people and taking dozens hostage.
Go and pick up the actual phones that were left behind and read the last texts that were sent. Sit inside the tent that some hid in. Hear the stories of survivors. Touch the dusty hoodie that was once worn. Don’t turn away. Give them a voice, give the innocent hostages still waiting a voice, and be brave enough to fight for the right that music always remain a safe place.
