Dear Dad,
Thank you for taking all the risks in letting me be who I truly am as your daughter. Sorry for all the times I got arrested as a teen and stressed you out. Thanks for always holding me close anytime my heart broke. You are patient and wild all at the same time. Together we lost a best friend, your wife, my mother, we immigrated countries together, watched you almost leave this life from a heart attack, you almost saw me fade away in my hardest times, but together we survived it all. You’ve imprinted a lot on me, the good and the bad. Ill take it all as I know it comes from a place of love. So happy to be together in Warsaw today. Happy Fathers Day Tatusiu. ❤️
I ran into @giraffestudios at a birthday party a few weeks ago. We haven’t seen each other in over 10 years. I asked the sisters what have they been working on and they shared that they have been practicing miming. For @nickygiraffe and @julianagiraffe art has become an understanding in navigating the unique relationship between their mother and father and the family dynamic.
A few weeks later, we came together along with their mother who makes all their costumes. We talked about what femininity ment to us, how to express ourselves as people in art and the experience of deep and at times hard relationships that have a history of decades and how we learn to navigate them while staying true to ourselves, while taking these photos.
We all left the day perfectly full in the silence to follow the expressions created in the arts. ❤️

One afternoon I was hanging with my dad and I asked him
“Now that mom is gone, you might have to play the role of a mother and a father….”
Then I said
“What does femininity and what does the emotion of a mother look like?”
I dressed him up in one of my moms favorite dresses she wore in the early 80’s and these are the emotions he came back with.
To all the mothers and the children and the fathers and friends that play mothers, sending everyone lots of love on this day. I wish this day happened more than once a year because we should truly appreciate those who gave birth to us, in whatever form that is, not just physically, but emotionally. I understand there are people that have very difficult relationships with their mothers, but they might find a bond or that love with other person. All in all, call your mom or give her a hug or someone that represents that for you :-)

Last summer for my birthday I gathered a few friends and some strangers, put them all on a boat and set sail in the Aeolian Islands. What an epic adventure that was. So grateful for these visual memories✨
