When we think of birthdays, we tend to think in terms of our own, when we turn a year older, when we celebrate your life. But then you meet your person and suddenly celebrating their birthday is celebrating every moment you’ve gotten to have together and you can’t help but be grateful that you get to spend more with them.
She is amazing. Insatiable. Irreplaceable. Iridescent. A wonder. A muse. A dream. A powerful intelligent strong independent beautiful but doesn’t need me to say she is woman. And she’s been a mom for 4 weeks and is absolutely crushing it.
We met for afternoon drinks at a French cafe on the upper east side of Manhattan. Now we’re married with a baby boy. Can’t wait for this next year with you. Happy birthday! I love you @melissa.a.ruiz
They’re all good days with you.
One month. I have so many more thoughts and I’m completely speechless at the same time.
The world feels different now that you’re here, little man. Everything has shifted. I’m overjoyed and honored to see more of your personality and curiosity, flourish.
Your dad and I love you so much.
Thanks for making us parents.
Thanks for picking me to be your mom.
@annetteladoula Thank you for your unending support, education, and real talk when I needed it. Checking in with you made me more confident in the delivery room. And let’s not forget your perfectly timed, “All Out!”
And @the_dave_hanson thanks for letting me almost break your finger during delivery. He’s pretty cute so I’d say it was worth it. 😘
We made a human!
To everyone who has given us love, support, advice, baby gear and food- thank you! You have no idea (or maybe you do) how much that has meant to us.
Love,
Dave, Melissa, Emiliano & Gus

Merry Christmas from our family of three and a half.
We have so much to be grateful for this year and I couldn’t have done a bit of it without @the_dave_hanson by my side.
Enjoy our attempts of getting @this_isgus to pose.

A new production arrives in New York City this Spring!
One year.
One year of adventures. Sundates. Mondates. Family walks.
One year of I love yous and I miss yous. Long weeks. Short fights. Aperol spritz and mezcal negronis.
One year of “roll over, you’re snoring” and side walk and seltzers.
People often talk about soulmates and falling madly in love. For me, there’s just no one else I want to do life with.
Because you matter to me
Simple and plain and not much to ask from somebody
You matter to me
I promise you do, you, you matter too
I promise you do, you see?
You matter to me.
I love you and Happy Anniversary @the_dave_hanson

Picture it: you’re on national TV.
In the 15 second preview of your segment, they show you starting your answer with, “So yeah….” 🙉🤦🏽♀️😵💫
When our nerves kick in, making a sound feels like we’ve answered sooner. And if we answer sooner, we’ll come off smarter and smarter is better and if I’m smarter than I’m winning and they’ll pay me all the money to do all the things. Boom.
Your brain sends sounds to your face and instead of the rehearsed, but natural, coherent answer, you say, “um yeah so totally, like…”
Take. A. Breath.
Literally. We need a pattern interrupt to stop the habit that’s formed to answer (make noise) as soon as it’s our turn to speak. When you’re asked a question or you’d like to contribute to a conversation, breathe and start with intention.
Places to practice:
- at the dinner table with family and you’re asked about your day
- on the phone with your best friend telling stories back and forth
- job interview prep with a trusted coach or friend
What’s one speaking habit you’d like to break?
