One day this summer I walked into
@royalmountainrecords office and all of a sudden had enough of looking at our main floor being filled with random music gear, weird old junk, boxes of records that never sold, empty boxes of records that did sell, and a whole bunch of holes in the walls from when it was a jam space or had live goats in it and god knows what else it has been over the years.
Later that week I randomly walked into a place on the east side that I had never been called
@fattoushtoronto . I had one of the best falafel’s I’ve ever tasted, and the damn fine cup of coffee. The people serving me were super nice so I asked them if I could get this food on the west side of town.
They said no, but one day they hope to open a spot there. Those who know me know I’m not even kidding when I say that I asked them right then after knowing them for about five minutes if they wanted to start a coffee shop sandwich shop and record store on the main floor of the Royal Mountain building on Dundas West. Rightly so, they looked at me like I was completely insane and reluctantly gave me their email to get in touch.
Now, just over three months later, and
@elsies.to is officially open for business. It’s been so fulfilling, renovating the space under the guidance of
@jdugray and filling it with my favourite records and a bunch of yummy food.
In the 3 days so far it’s been amazing meeting the neighbours and a ton of old friends, who have stopped by.
Today, my spiritual advisor
@fpenner5 stopped in for an Elsie’s Special. I couldn’t let him leave without him playing sandwiches. Couple hours later my buds in
@julytalk came to drop off a bunch of their records that they signed and made new colourful cover art on.
These records plus a ton of other cool stuff, some really good coffee, and some great breakfast sandwiches will be there all day tomorrow and hopefully for a many days after.
