Another circle around the sun. When I was in my 20s, I was so worried about getting older because lame people complain about it all the damn time. I thought 30 (as in just 3-0) was the end of growth because of all the limiting thoughts passed on as wisdom through classical music pedagogy. I’m 36 at midnight and I fucking love getting older. My learning life has only gotten better. And for fuck sake, some of my closest people didn’t make it this far, I’m beyond grateful to still be here participating in life. Honestly when people complain about aging I want to shake them. Getting another year to be with the people I love is an invaluable gift, and the confidence and lessons that come with each new year have made me grow immensely, I am very proud of the person I have become. I am past settling with toxicity, bad behavior, and other people’s anger, I am past living for what I think other people want for me, I’ve lived through all of my worst nightmares and I’m still here, I’m resilient. This 36th birthday feels like just the beginning of my life as a fully autonomous person. And I make it look cute, thanks v much. I got to spend my day at a writing camp pitching to some big names, I’ll be playing at the Grammys in Feb, I’m already booked for a couple tours, I have great relationships with my writing partners. 2024 is already gearing up to be a huge year for me, and I’m filled with gratitude for the people in my life through which none of these good things would be possible, it is the greatest gift anyone can ask for. My close friends and chosen family, y’all make me laugh, make me so happy, you are so loving and supportive, and we will lift each other to new heights in 2024. Thankful for another year to grow. 🥳
