For many, The Station’s transformation is a “reminder of how far the city of Detroit has come”. A recent visitor, Ron Hanson, shared with us his personal connection to The Station. His mother came to Detroit through Michigan Central Station in 1925, nearly 100 years later, Ron now imagines the mix of excitement and fear she must have felt. One of his most cherished memories is of a conversation with his father about departing from the train station to fight in WWII, like thousands of other young men who left not knowing if they would ever return. Despite decades of decay before the renovation, Ron always saw the station as a gem, filled with the stories of millions who passed through its doors. Now polished and “restored to its former glory” Ron says he never imagined just how beautiful it could become – a true reminder of Detroit's resilience. See the restoration first hand by visiting Summer at The Station Fridays 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Share your story with us for a chance to be featured through the link in bio.

What's your vision for the future?    Immerse yourself in "me + you," an interactive AI and light sculpture by the acclaimed Suchi Reddy, situated in The Station’s South Concourse. Speak a single word representing your vision for the future and watch as open-source AI technology transforms it into a dazzling pattern of light and color that shimmers like a mandala. Large-scale circular portals then capture and reflect the collective feelings of all participants, showing our connection to each other and our influence on one another.    To date, the most frequently spoken words—"bright," "great," and "amazing"—mirror the overwhelmingly positive outlook of the Detroit community about their shared future.    Join us in person for self-guided tours from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays or participate remotely from your desktop or phone at meplusyoudetroit.com or. No tickets are required. We look forward to witnessing your contributions!

We are deeply grateful to the 3,100 skilled-trade workers who dedicated more than 1.7 million combined hours to meticulously restore The Station to its original Beaux-Arts glory and create a new institution to welcome future generations. Their hard work and craftsmanship have brought this iconic landmark back to life, preserving its rich history while preparing it for a vibrant future. Here are some astounding facts about their monumental efforts: 8 million bricks make up The Station, which if laid end to end would stretch about 1,000 miles - about the distance from Detroit to New Orleans 23,000 square feet of original marble floors restored. 600 tons of unique limestone harvested from the same Indiana quarry that provided matching stone for The Station back in 1910 - a quarry that had to be reopened because it had closed in 1988, the same year The Station did. 102,000 square feet of windows were replaced or restored. 4,200 new light fixtures were installed, including re-creations of three massive chandeliers in the Waiting Room/Grand Hall. 8.7 miles of grout were used to hand clean and restore the 29,000 Guastavino terra cotta ceiling tiles in the Grand Hall, all but 1,300 of which are original. 3.5 million gallons of water were pumped from the basement, and 3,990 cubic yards of debris were removed. Thank you to the dedicated men and women who made this transformation possible! 🚧🔨
