The Rose Still Grows… A Story
“A few plucked petals floating away in the wind
un-willingly shared gifts
from a tightly wound bud that swore no one would ever be let in
Thorned out stem remembrances of strength
instances of having to fight for it’s place
amongst the daffodils and daisies
one by one each thorn snipped away and yet
still able to cut
swaying out into the sun
unfurling petals by choice
never by demand
though onlookers would swear they made the bud grow
each new opening
a welcoming for another blessing these velvet coiled petals will forever be the signifier
though they cut them at their stems
snip away their thorns
and pluck away at the velvet coiled petals
the rose still grows”
