Les étoiles sont considérées comme des guides célestes qui aident à naviguer dans les domaines physiques et spirituels. Comprendre notre place dans l'espace renforce la notion que nous faisons partie de quelque chose de plus grand et d'interconnecté. Reconnaître cette interconnexion peut favoriser un sentiment d'unité et de respect pour toute vie sur Terre et au-delà. Avec l'expansion de l'espace, les générations futures risquent d'être confrontées à un sentiment d'isolement hors de portée. Cette notion souligne l'importance de maintenir notre lien avec le cosmos et de préserver notre patrimoine humain. ⭐⭐⭐ Indigenous cultures recognize the stars as sacred and integral to their cosmological beliefs. Stars are considered celestial guides, helping navigate both physical and spiritual realms. Understanding our place in space reinforces the notion that we are part of something larger and interconnected. Acknowledging this interconnectedness can foster a sense of unity and respect for all life on Earth and beyond. As space continues to expand, there is a possibility that future generations could face a sense of isolation beyond reach. This notion highlights the importance of maintaining our connection to the cosmos and preserving our human heritage. Colonization of the Moon (2019) La course spatiale n’a jamais été aussi forte depuis le dernier alunissage par les États-Unis en 1969. Chaque nation est impatiente de revendiquer ses droits sur la nouvelle frontière, et il y a actuellement six drapeaux américains sur la lune - plantés par les astronautes d'Apollo. Cependant, en raison du rayonnement de l'espace, le tissu est connu pour devenir blanc et, dans certains cas, se désintégrer complètement. Michael Patten démontre avec sa sculpture Colonization of the Moon la frénétique compétition des pays à vouloir revendiquer son appartenance à un territoire et d’ainsi marquer d’un drapeau les nouvelles délimitations de ses frontières. The space race has never been stronger since the last moon landing by the United States in 1969. Each nation is eager to stake their claim in the new frontier, and there are currently six United States flags on the moon - planted by the Apollo astronauts. However, due to the radiation of space the fabric has been known to turn white, and in some cases completely disintegrate. With his sculpture Colonization of the Moon, Michael Patten demonstrates the frenetic competition of countries that want to assert their belonging to a territory and thus mark with a flag the new boundaries of their borders. Headdress (2017) En utilisant une coiffe comme symbole de l'indigénat et en la recouvrant d'une épaisse couche de peinture blanche, suffisamment pour former une flaque - comme une marée noire - sur le sol, Patten semble remettre en question les idées d'essentialisme tout en critiquant la façon dont les valeurs et les territoires autochtones ont été transformés en marchandises culturelles et économiques. Little Red Dots (2017) Little Red Dots renvoie simultanément à des lectures passées et présentes de l'indigénéité.
